Toilet Rebate Program

As population growth and drought conditions continue to impact available fresh water supplies, many municipal leaders and water department officials are searching for ways to reduce the amount of water being consumed in residences and businesses.

One obvious solution is encouraging residents to reduce water waste through replacement of older toilets with HET (High Efficiency Toilet) models.  Most pre-1994 toilets use 3.5 gallons or more of water per flush, while HET toilets use only 1.28 gallons.  This saving of 2.22 gallons per flush may not initially seem like much, but in a situation where a toilet is flushed ten times per day more than 8100 gallons of water can be saved annually per toilet.  Put another way, if just 400 older toilets are replaced with HET models, a municipality could expect to realize savings of 3.2 million gallons of water per year.
