BioTreat and BioTreatPlus

 Non-Bacterial Septic Tank Treatment

BioTreat is an environmentally safe and natural septic tank treatment that will maintain your plumbing system clear of problems!  Originally developed and used in municipal wastewater treatment plants, BioTreat accelerates the digestion of sewage in both aerobic and anaerobic systems producing less sludge, odor and suspended solids.  It is now available to consumers for residential use as a septic tank treatment that is a safe alternative to Rid-X™ and other microbial additives. Biotreat uses a scientific combination of organic compounds, nutrients, and enzymes to safely degrade and eliminate waste and odors.

A quart lasts about 10 months for a 2 person household - less than $5 per month.

What about bacteria?

A SEPTIC TANK is a bacteria super store. There is an extremely broad spectrum of bacteria in your Septic Tank and bacteria change constantly to adapt to the waste going into the Septic Tank. State and University Extension Services say that adding bacteria to Septic Tanks serves no point because they are already a rich bacterial environment.

Wastewater Treatment Plants rarely add bacteria and they're in the wastewater business!  When they do need bacteria they get a tank truck of activated sludge (sludge with live bacteria) from another WWTP - they don't go to a store.  That killer bacteria at the hardware store that promises to the job probably will, but so will the bacteria you already have in your Septic Tank. What the Septic System needs is working bacteria - not more bacteria. Bacteria adapt to their environment, and BioTreat speeds this process. The best microbes for this job is existing bacteria that has already adapted to the temperature, substrates, pH and other aspects of a particular septic system.

So many people say they add bacteria to their septic system…isn’t this good? First of all, you’re not adding “bacteria” you’re adding “bacterial spores” – bacteria seeds. Adding bacteria isn’t bad – it’s just considered a waste of time and money by State and College Extension Services. Articles will tell you that there’s a tremendous amount of bacteria already in the Septic System and those bacteria – many different types – are adapted to your particular Septic Tank.

When BioTreat or BioTreat Plus is added, the metabolism of the existing bacteria is increased. There is a shifting of the bacterial population to the bacteria types most favorable to the septic system at a given moment. We use the word ‘bacteria’ as a collective word. There are a myriad of different bacteria species in a septic tank. The biodegradation of one molecule of a particular waste may involve over a hundred different process steps involving several different bacteria.

Bacteria either adapt to their environment or die. Some will go to spores and germinate to particular bacteria when conditions again become favorable to that particular bacteria type. BioTreat and BioTreat Plus contain cytokinins, which are natural plant growth hormones. Cytokinins stimulate bacteria reproduction and promote cell activity.

What Should I Do To Protect My Septic Tank?

Controlling what goes into the Septic System is important. Products that say they are Septic Tank safe or biodegradable are obvious first choices. Sugars, fats, oils, greases and proteins biodegrade but require time and work. Your septic tank system will handle these, but try to be moderate in their addition.

Be careful of old sayings about Septic Tanks – they’re usually not right. Soaps and detergents should be labeled as biodegradable – but don’t go with dirty clothes just for a biodegradable soap. Keep the use of products like chlorine bleaches, bactericide soaps and disinfectants to a minimum. If it will kill bacteria in your house, on your clothing or hands it will kill bacteria in your septic tank.

BioTreat or BioTreatPlus?

Owners of older Septic Systems should use the BioTreat Plus and newer ones will be fine using regular BioTreat - the choice is yours! If you're a worrier - go for the Plus. Households with children and disposals often will put more fats, oils and greases to the septic system and BioTreat Plus is more applicable.
