How Reverse Osmosis Works
Osmosis is the process by which water moves across a semi-permeable membrane from a low concentration of solute to a high concentration of solute. Reverse osmosis depends on the presence of a barrier or membrane that is selective so that solvent of a solution can pass through the membrane while other components of the solution cannot. The osmotic pressure is the pressure required to stop the flow of solvent through a semi-permeable membrane separating two solutions of different concentrations. To separate water from dissolved solids by reverse osmosis, the applied pressure must be greater than the osmotic pressure.
Reverse osmosis is the finest level of filtration available and is extremely effective in reducing a huge range of water contaminants. The RO membrane acts as a barrier to all dissolved salts and inorganic molecules, as well as organic molecules with molecular weight greater than approximately 100. Water molecules on the other hand pass freely through the membrane creating a purified product stream. Rejection of dissolved salts is typically 95% to greater than 99%. The semi-permeable membrane is comprised of microscopic pores and allows only the pure water molecules to pass through leaving the impurities to be washed down the drain, and leaving you the purest water on tap with up to 98% of contamination removed. |

AquaPro H2O Easy AP-5000R Domestic Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration & Purification System
The AP-5000R provides up to 75 U.S. gallons (283.9 litres) of water per day and is one of the most effective and versatile domestic purification systems available today. Here’s how the four stage filtration process works:
2 - Activated carbon pre-filter removes chlorine, which can damage the RO membrane by burning holes 3 - Reverse osmosis TFC membrane (75 G/D) which removes dissolved solids in the water 4 - Activated carbon post filter for pH regulation, odor removal and improved taste
Among other contaminants, reverse Osmosis water purification will remove 99.9% Giardia & Cryptosporidium while improving the taste and quality of your drinking water. Chlorine, a well known health hazard, is also reduced by up to 99%. Other contaminants that are reduced or eliminated include:
(*Note that the presence of an unusual or extreme amount of contaminants in your water supply may require additional or alternative treatment methods. If in doubt, contact us before purchasing water treatment products. Our team of experts will be pleased to provide additional information, offer advice and perform a complimentary water analysis on a sample that you provide.)
As with any R.O. system, the purification process results in a certain amount of water being wasted. This ratio for the AquaPro Reverse Osmosis System is approximately 1:1. However, the resulting wasted water can easily be reused with a greywater reclamation system, plumbed out to the garden or simply fed down the drain. |

Benefits of AquaPro Water Purification Not only can you enjoy all the benefits of great tasting water supplied by your reverse osmosis drinking water system, but the water produced by the reverse osmosis (RO) process can be used for many purposes around the home. Drinking Water - keep a container of RO water in the fridge to be able to enjoy the clean, fresh taste. Alternatively, take it directly from the tap. Ice Cubes - use RO water to fill ice cube trays. Ice cubes made from RO water are typically clearer and better tasting than ice made from plain tap water. Automatic Ice Makers - a water line from the RO system can be plumbed to refrigerators with automatic icemakers. Additional accessories required to complete this connection are not included. Please consult the refrigerator’s owner’s manual on this installation. Kettles and Coffee Makers - plain tap water eventually causes films and scale in these devices that is difficult to clean. RO water is very low in dissolved minerals content, greatly reducing the chance of scale buildup. Cooking - use RO water for boiling pasta, rice or any other recipe that calls for water in the instructions. Washing Fresh Fruit & Vegetables - prevent tap water minerals from being deposited onto food to maintain freshness. Family Pets – Allow your pets to enjoy the same great tasting water you do. Irons & Steamers - prevent mineral buildup in household appliances that use water and eventually build up with scale when using plain tap water. |
